Certificate Requirements (Minimum of 13 Credits Total + Experiential Learning)
The Global Studies Certificate consists of five courses (a minimum of 13 credit hours), including three required core courses and two additional courses selected from approved global elective offerings. In addition, students must complete a minimum two-week approved experiential learning component, which may be credit-bearing or non-credit-bearing. Approved experiences may include study abroad, international service-learning, internships, or other global experiential programs, subject to departmental approval.
The core courses are
- HIST 320 American International Relations
- HIST 225 World Civ I or HIST 226 World Civ II
- BIOL 245 Global Environmental Sustainability
Other courses could include:
- POLS 315 History of Political Thought
- HIST 338 History of Terrorism
Or other courses that deal with: Peace and conflict, Environmental stewardship, Global development and economy, Human rights and social justice, or International political and economic systems.
Experiential learning component may include study abroad, international service-learning, internships, or other global experiential programs, subject to departmental approval
