ENGL 231 : American Literature I

A study of varied writers and works from 1609-1860, with special focus on non-fiction genres including sermons, spiritual autobiographies, slave narratives, and arguments. The class also introduces key literary movements and authors in the nineteenth century, and places these authors and movements in conversation with the Advent movement of 1844.
